On a typical Sunday at New Life, you’ll meet a wide variety of people of all generations and backgrounds. But we like to focus on what brings us together rather than the things that make us different. So we celebrate our differences and understand that our growing faith in Jesus is what matters the most to us.
We also see ourselves as a vital part of the community around us. New Life is not an isolated community, but part of a much larger network of relationships in Wakefield and the South County area. We love the idea of interacting with people who are not like us, so that through us, they can see a different picture of Jesus and the church. In short, we’d like to say that New Life is becoming a trusted cultural influence in our community.
The people who make it all happen behind the scenes:
our dedicated office staff who runs on Jesus and Starbucks.
Pastor Keith has been leading New Life since November of 1999 and hopes to be here for another 30 years. He is a 1998 graduate of Zion Bible College with a degree in Biblical Studies.
Keith‘s passion is to teach the Scriptures in a way that relates to our everyday life, and enjoys nothing more than seeing people’s lives changed by God’s work in them. He feels incredibly blessed to be able to go to work every day at something he knows is making a significant impact on lives in our community.
Keith has been married to Rita, also a Zion Bible College graduate, since 1997. They live in Matunuck along with their 3 children – Jacob, Seth, and Aislinn – and the family dog, Sam. Keith has been known to willingly read books that others find boring, enjoys a good cup of Starbucks coffee, and is rumored to be a die-hard Red Sox fan.
Favorite caffeinated beverage: Ristretto Americano. Or a straight double shot of espresso on Sunday mornings. Person you’d most like to share a meal with: Bill Belichick. I‘d love to ask him about his pursuit of excellence personally and for an entire organization. Plus I’d just love to hear him talk football. Current favorite book: Current favorite is still my all time favorite: Lord of the Rings. I re-read it every year and it never fails to move me to tears. Favorite quote: I write this inside every new sermon notebook:
“Let the preacher tell the truth. Let him make audible the silence of the news of the world with the sound turned off so that in the silence we can hear the tragic truth of the Gospel, which is that the world where God is absent is a dark and echoing emptiness; and the comic truth of the Gospel, which is that it is into the depths of his absence that God makes himself present in such unlikely ways and to such unlikely people that old Sarah and Abraham and maybe when the time comes even Pilate and Job and Lear and Henry Ward Beecher and you and I laugh till the tears run down our cheeks. And finally let him preach this overwhelming of tragedy by comedy, of darkness by light, of the ordinary by the extraordinary, as the tale that is too good not to be true because to dismiss it as untrue is to dismiss along with it that catch of the breath, that beat and lifting of the heart near to or even accompanied by tears, which I believe is the deepest intuition of truth that we have.” ~ Frederick Buechner

New Life Assembly Church
New Life exists to help you take your next step toward becoming an all-in follower of Jesus. Practically speaking that means we know every person starts their faith journey somewhere. Some are coming from a previous church background but have long since left that behind. Others are coming from very little church or religious experience. But regardless of where you’re beginning from, we want to help you take your next step toward following Jesus more fully.
Our beliefs can best be summarized in a historic statement of faith that followers of Jesus have been affirming for centuries. It’s known as the Apostles’ Creed:
I believe in God, the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried;
he descended to the dead.
On the third day he rose again;
he ascended into heaven,
he is seated at the right hand of the Father,
and he will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting.
